Cut cake into 8 or 10 slices. Arrange half the slices in a 2 qt. glass serving bowl, cutting pieces to fit bowl along the bottom and sides.

Pour half the sliced fruit over the cake. Spread with 1 cup of pudding. Repeat by arranging, in layers, cake slices, fruit slices, and pudding in a glass bowl and top with whipped cream and more fruit.

Cover. Chill at least 4 hrs. Spread whipped topping over trifle. Sprinkle with almonds and garnish with sliced fruit, if desired.

Using whipped topping from a spray can lets you create decorative twists and swirls to give your trifle a more festive look.
